D - Dearest you

review - 17.05.2007 13:00

D's first single of 2007.

Displaying D's flair for the dramatic, Dearest you boasts an undeniably masterful blending of powerful vocals and expertly played instruments. This version of the single includes a DVD containing the PV for Dearest you.

Dearest you, a mournfully romantic rock tune, wastes no time in catching the listeners' ears with skillfully played guitars from Ruiza and Hide-zou. With beautiful vocals that alternate from high and soaring to fierce and growling and a constantly pulsing bass line, it does not disappoint as the single's title track.

Asagi's operatic voice joins in with great guitar work - featuring the use of a 7-string guitar - and Hiroki's rhythmic drumming following the haunting opening of Mayoi no Mori. Tsunehito's short bass solo, performed on a 5-stringed bass, is well placed and a precursor to a delightful guitar solo. Deep backing vocals and a few subtle but twinkling sound effects add extra dimension to this already stand-out song.

The screaming start to Guardian is balanced by hard-hitting drums and killer guitar riffs. Although the vocals are rougher in parts of this track, Asagi still hits his usual dramatic highs, a demonstration of the versatility of his voice. All elements come together in this satisfactory end to the release.

A forceful example of D's musical prowess, Dearest you is a must-not-miss for visual kei fans. With a dazzling meld of drama, gloom and even a bit of romance, D's first single of the year will definitely please and leave fans wanting even more.
