Born in Kagoshima, Japan, Mika Nakashima started her career acting on television but soon transitioned to music, and debuting her first single STARS in 2001. Well received, the single sold over 60 million copies. Composing music that is primarily pop, Nakashima has had a successful music career over the past decade and continued to act intermittently.

In 2005 she was cast in the popular movies "NANA" and a year later, "NANA 2," playing the main character Nana Osaki. She also sang both movies' theme songs, GLAMOROUS SKY and Hitoiro.
