GAM

ギャム

major - Przerwa (2006 - 2007)
GAM was one of the numerous Hello!Project groups. At their debut, it was stated that GAM, unlike many other H!P projects, would be a solid unit instead of a one-time side-project, but the unit was only active for about a year.

GAM stands for 'Great Aya and Miki': solo-star Aya Matsuura together with Morning Musume's Fujimoto Miki. Their name also has an alternative meaning: the group’s creator Tsunku found out that 'gam' is English slang for 'pretty legs' and because of that there is a lot of focus on the girls' legs in their promotional material such as photo shoots.

The two girls happen to be good friends and their voices seem to match with each other very well. Although one can't really say that their pop songs are much different from other Hello!Project groups, they are certainly very catchy.

biografia
Tsunku, the producer of Hello!Project, announced in June 2006 that he would create a unit consisting of Aya Matsuura and Fujimoto Miki.

A side-project was nothing new for the two girls who had been in various projects before, teaming up with other members from Hello!Project. It also wasn't the first time that they worked together: they had both been in the group Gomattou, which had only released one single. Tsunku ensured pretty quickly that this wouldn’t be a temporal project; instead it was going to be a solid unit.

Their first single, Thanks, was released in September. It immediately turned out to be very successful as it entered the Oricon charts at rank two. The single was used as the main theme for the movie "Sukeban Deka IV", starring Aya Matsuura as well.

Melodies followed in October and was a success as well. However, the music video of Melodies caused quite some tumult in Japan because it ended with the two girls kissing. A censored version was released as well, and instead of airing the whole video, the video comes abruptly to an end just before the kiss scene.

The duo released two more singles in March 2007, one of them being the limited release Daisuki Rakuten Eagles, which was a cheer song for the baseball team Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles. As a limited release, it was only available for purchase on the Rakuten Golden Eagles' website. A few months later, the duo released their first album, 1st GAM ~Amai Yûwaku~ in May. In August, their first live DVD was released.

Although the group was originally announced as a solid unit, after 2007 there was very little heard from GAM. As Fujimoto Miki and Matsuura Aya both graduated from Hello!Project in March 2009, it seems unlikely that the unit will reappear in Japan's showbiz world again.
