vocalist and guitarist Oyamada Souhei, bassist Fujiwara Hiroshi and drummer Gotou Daiki founded andymori in autumn 2007 in Nishi Ogikubo, West-Tokyo.
In the same year, they recorded their first demo tape everything is my guitar and began playing in small local clubs. In 2008, the young band was able to release their mini-album andy to rock to bengaru tora to whisky nationally. andymori kept traveling around in the underground indies scene and started to gain more attention.
The first full album - self-titled andymori - was released early in 2009, and in the summer the band played at several huge festivals such as Rock in Japan Festival in July and Summer Sonic in August. These events were good opportunities for andymori to reach more people and to increase their fan base. At the end of July, the band was able to play their first one-man live, which was completely sold out. In October, a second one-man was held in Liquidroom.
The year 2010 started with a national tour called Space Shower together with bands like sister jet, the bawdies and avengers in sci-fi. andymori's second full-length album Fanfare to nekkyoo was released on February 3rd and made it up to second on the weekly Oricon Indie Album Charts.
In May, the band will get the opportunity to perform abroad with a tour in Canada with various other Japanese indie acts. The tour will cover both coasts of Canada.
For a band that has only been around for three years, andymori's fame seems to be skyrocketing. Their catchy brand of music is continuously gaining more fans, fueled by the promotion they are getting nationally and internationally. We can only guess what the future will bring for this young trio, but be sure to keep an eye on andymori.
andymori is a rising star in Japan’s indie rock scene. Even though they have only been around for three years, the trio already has two full albums to their name and has performed at various well-known summer festivals, such as the Fuji Rock Festival and Summer Sonic.
The band plays an energetic and uncomplicated rock style that sometimes edges towards punk, and at other times, to folk. With their music they have already gained a vast number of fans in Japan and the band has expressed an interest in overseas countries as well, with several performances in Canada coming up in May 2010.
