It was in February 2009 that amber gris was formed, but not until August that they had their first performances in the form of secret lives. For those who wonder about what is interesting about them, Temari, the strong vocalist from Ruvie, leads the band, along with such members as guitarist kaname (ex-gossip) and bassist koto (ex-Sugar).
Also in August, the band opened their official website and MySpace, where they announced their first official live performance. It was held at Takadanobaba AREA as a part of an event, where they also sold their first single, a three-track CD calledJoukou 8000ft -shounen wa tengoku e todoku no ka-.
As usual, several others performances in events held by fellow visual kei bands followed, and so the band started to achieve a fan base of their own. Fortunately, after only two months, the group has already planned the release of a new single, called Shoujo no Cuore, for March 2010 – it will also be their first CD to be sold in regular stores. A series of events around Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya are also being organized by the band in order to promote the CD.
So far amber gris remains largely unknown overseas so far, as they have not done a lot of releases or other kinds of activities as of now. Still, as we take a look at the members’ previous projects, it is almost certain that a bright side is right ahead of them, as their own personalities and talents are bound to mix well together in a breath of fresh air to the scene.
amber gris is a visual rock quintet formed with members from relatively well-known bands in the scene, such as Ruvie and Sugar. Not much can be said about them as of now, as their activities have been restricted to Japan within the few months they have been around.
However, contrary to most bands emerging in the underground scene nowadays, the band carries a clean, elegant look, and their sound so far has proved that it will hardly go unnoticed, as it displays a very well balanced mix of aggressive, mellow and beautiful music. Judging from the members’ background, we can expect they will bring much originality and quality to the scene.
