THE KIDDIE

also known as:   KIDDIE (THE)
major - active (2007 - )
THE KIDDIE is a bright pop-rock band, which was formed after the disbanding of the promising though young Kazoku. With a mellow yet upbeat style of music, the band has so far released memorable, simple songs of a consistent quality with very sweet vocals from Yusa.

Their look is usually casual and straight-to-the-point, and a little distinct from other young visual kei bands. As the members have been in a number of bands before, the experience the group already has is enabling them to produce exciting material with a lot of potential.

biography
After the unexpected disbanding of the young band Kazoku, vocalist Yusa and drummer Yuu, who is now called Yuudai, decided to stick together and create a new band. Along with their former bandmate Jun, Yuusei (ex-Maruru) and Sorao (ex-Shelly ~Jazz Rock Children~), they officially formed THE KIDDIE in May 2007. The band opened their official site that same month, keeping the fans excited with a preview of the song Ao, until they played their first live on July 1st at Meguro Rockmaykan.

The band kept themselves busy playing a number of concerts over the next few months until they released their first single, Little SENOBI on October 3rd. The single, limited to 1000 copies, sold out on pre-orders alone and hit the 14th spot on the Oricon Indies chart. They played two further concerts in October and announced their first one-man live, SHIBUYA BRAND NEW WAVE, which took place at SHIBUYA BOXX on December 7th. The group finished the year by playing in an event held by Bergerac at Shibuya O-WEST.

The year 2008 saw the release of the second press of Little SENOBI in January with an additional track entitled in one sense. The CD sold even more copies, leading to further Oricon success for the band. THE KIDDIE also began to join events organized by the labels SPEEDDISK, PS COMPANY and S’CUBE, and the KYpresents [Interpersonal Relationship] tour'08 tour, which consisted of three concerts.

In March, THE KIDDIE released their second single, Plastic Art, to greater commercial success. They decided to spend the next few months playing lives and taking part in many tours, such as Burning circus, FREE STREET RUSH vol.3 and Royal Party. In October, the band released their third single, Sayonara Setsuna, their most successful yet, which hit the fifth position on the Oricon Indies chart. They also held the Mangoose tour, which ended with their second one-man concert, the curiously titled vs Mangoose at Omotesando FAB on the 19th of October. The group ended 2008 with performances, including the traditional New Year’s Eve event stylish wave COUNTDOWN'08-'09 at Yokohama Akarenga Hall.

The year 2009 didn't start on a good note for the band, as vocalist Yusa had to undergo surgery to remove two polyps from his throat. However, they didn't stay quiet for too long, as from April to August they released two new new singles and performed a one-man live at SHIBUYA O-WEST. Also in August, THE KIDDIE opened their official fanclub "kidd's" and announced a three-month release campaign for the last months of the year, which consisted of the singles soar, BLACK SIDE and Poplar—all three released by the major label VAP. Their largest one-man concert was also held at Akasaka BLITZ in December.

With their catchy and upbeat pop-rock sound, and casual yet stylish looks, THE KIDDIE certainly has much more to offer. Not afraid to experiment with different kinds of sounds either, after a powerful start THE KIDDIE's bright future is surely something to watch closely.
