Zy 55: Arimura Ryutaro

interview - 06.03.2011 11:01

And forward into the future

This interview and shoot were held in the second half of November 2010. Plastic Tree released their new single Mirai iro (Color of the future) in December 2010, and will conclude this year with their annual year-end lives Year-end lives~ Yuku pura kuru pura (December 28th, 29th at JCB Hall). They've kept up their pace producing music and doing tours aggressively, but how was this year for them actually? This may seem like just a common project looking back over this year, but we asked vocalist Arimura Ryutaro, representing the band, to tell us everything. We hope they continue shining with the wonderful Mirai iro in 2011 as well.

You've released Mirai iro, and will do your annual year-end lives Year-end lives~ Yuku pura kuru pura just after we release our magazine, so this time, we're asking you to look back over the year 2010. How was it?

Arimura Ryutaro: It was a year where we did a bit of everything. (smile) . Tent② (their third live in Nippon Budokan) was quite a big event. For me, I think the Budokan the biggest thing. I had various personal problems and but still managed to get through it. It was my first experience to do a live feeling like that. Of course, I would have had the same feeling even we were playing in a different place. It was an unforgettable live, especially for me.

Not long before the Budokan live, you lost your father in May, which must have really affected you.

Arimura Ryutaro: Yes. Honestly speaking, I was afraid that I might have to stop my band activities for a while after the Budokan live.

What do you mean?

Arimura Ryutaro: After the Budokan live, I thought that I might have to stop my activities for a while. So the Budokan live was unforgettable for me.

But you kept working after the Budokan live, eventually. (smile)

Arimura Ryutaro: I started wanting to do a tour. Fans were worried too, so I just wanted to get out there and do a lot of lives.

Then, you did the Budokan live in September, and the autumn tour Getsu sekai ryokou (Traveling in the Moon World) started in October.

Arimura Ryutaro: So the tour Getsu sekai ryokou was really great.

I think the theme of Getsu sekai ryokou was excellent. You have many songs
singing about the stars and such.

Ariumura Ryutaro: Basically the tour was done after we released the single Moonlight---. So the tour title became "Moonlight". (laugh) But we thought it was also good to use "traveling in the moon world". At that time, I didn’t care about the concept. Frankly I just wanted to do a lot of lives.
